Celebrating World Teachers’ Day

Happy World Teachers’ Day!
Today, we’re saying a huge thank you to all of the wonderful teachers and teaching assistants in our communities, who go above and beyond to educate and support children every day.
This World Teachers’ Day, we’re celebrating the people at the heart of this work by shining a light on 2 of our teachers. Find out what inspires them, and discover why they love teaching…
Our teachers
Our Encouraging Education Project provides free, daily education for out-of-school children across Katanga, Naguru and Namuwongo - 3 of Kampala’s largest slums. Our 3 teachers and 7 teaching assistants work together to deliver quality education to 100 children aged 3-6, who would otherwise have no opportunity to go to school.
Sheilah and Obvious both work at our Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Naguru, where they support children to take their first steps in learning.
We asked:
What does being a teacher mean to you?
What keeps you inspired?
Can you describe your students in three words?
Rather than tell you about their work, we thought we’d let Sheilah and Obvious tell you themselves…
“A teacher is a builder. We don’t just teach subjects, we build confidence.” - Obvious
“I am so thankful for the opportunity of being a teacher.” - Sheilah
Shaping bright futures
Early years education is a crucial time in a child’s development, and ECD teachers everywhere play a vital role in helping children build the foundations for their future. Their care and dedication help young children feel safe and supported at the start of their learning journey.
We’re so inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment our teachers in Kampala bring to the classroom. For children growing up in the slum communities, having a teacher who believes in them can make a lasting difference in their lives. Our teachers create welcoming spaces where children can enjoy learning and discover what they are capable of - giving them a strong start and encouraging them to look forward to the future.
The difference this support can make is clear in the experiences of the children and families we work with. One parent shared:
“With all the efforts teachers at KCK put in, my child performed well and was promoted to primary. She was able to learn how to read, write and also speak good English. I really want to thank Kids Club Kampala for the support and care they showed to my daughter.”

Thank you
Our Encouraging Education Project is only possible thanks to the support of people like you. By donating to our project, you can help us continue providing free, quality education to children in Kampala’s slum communities.
This World Teachers’ Day, can you help us pay for a teacher's salary?
