This April, 4 incredible runners - Ewan McMyn, Darren Birch, Matty Thomson and Niall Faucher - took on the 46th London Marathon to fundraise for Kids Club Kampala. The London Marathon is one of the biggest single-day fundraising events in the world, with 59,830 people crossing the finish line this year.

Together, they raised a grand total of £10,493 for our communities across East Africa!

I’m so excited to shine a spotlight on each of our runners, share the magic of race day, and show you how you could be part of the London Marathon in 2027…

Our runners

Ewan McMyn

Ewan, 25, lives in London and discovered Kids Club Kampala through a friend.

"The London Marathon has always been a dream of mine, and a personal milestone as my first ever marathon. Having worked with communities across Ethiopia and Somalia, I’ve seen first-hand the challenges faced across the East African region. Running for Kids Club Kampala felt like the perfect way to turn that milestone into something meaningful."

Ewan raised an amazing £3,009, smashing his initial target by £509! Reflecting on the day, he said:

“Running with KCK was a pleasure and a privilege, and an experience I’ll never forget."

Niall Faucher

Niall, 36, lives in London and learnt about Kids Club Kampala through a family member.

"The London Marathon is one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, and having loved running since a young age, it felt like the perfect opportunity to raise money for a good cause by doing something I love. Attending a KCK event last year, I got to hear the charity championed by The Mango Tree, speak to donors, and hear what makes Kids Club Kampala so special to them.”

Niall raised a total of £2,625, crushing his target by £125!

At the finish line, Niall shared:

"Thank you so much, I’m truly grateful for the opportunity and experience.”

Darren Birch

Darren, 42, lives in Birmingham and has volunteered with Kids Club Kampala, first hearing about us through his partner.

“It’s a personal challenge, but also a brilliant opportunity to raise money for Kids Club Kampala and be an ambassador for the charity. Attending events and meeting Olivia and Sam, I could see their passion and the incredible support the charity provides.”

Darren’s incredible fundraising efforts saw him raise an impressive £2,690 - smashing his original target by £690! After the race, Darren told us:

“Thank you for allowing me to run for KCK and have an experience of a lifetime.”

Matty Thomson

Matty, 31, lives in Lancashire and heard about Kids Club Kampala through a colleague.

“Running the London Marathon is something I have always wanted to do. After looking into numerous charities and researching Kids Club Kampala - reading the mission statement and seeing the impact they’ve made - I knew this was a charity I wanted to help. The London Marathon felt like the perfect way to do it.

Matty’s fundraising efforts were also successful. He raised £2,169 in total, beating his original fundraising goal by £169! Fresh off the course, he said:

“Thanks so much for allowing me to do this. So glad I could help raise something for this amazing charity”

Race day

Our cheer point at Shadwell, just a stone’s throw from St Paul’s Church, gave us the perfect spot to catch our runners at both Mile 13 and Mile 22. Within hours, it was packed with supporters from across the country, holding vibrant signs and ringing bells, all coming together to cheer on everyone taking on this incredible challenge. Among the hustle and bustle, we managed to spot all of our Kids Club Kampala runners. As a Londoner, it was truly special to see London at its finest and witness our runners' dedication come to life.

On behalf of everyone at Kids Club Kampala and the communities we support, I would like to say a huge thank you to our runners. Every mile ran and every penny raised will help to transform the lives of children and families in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
