On 2nd May we held our second annual Ewafe Project fundraising gig. This year the event was called “Raising The Rest” and the aim was to raise money to keep the Ewafe project running. The money raised at last year’s “Raising the Roof” gig allowed us to not only put a roof on the home but to finish the whole building. The doors of the home opened to abandoned children in December 2014. This year’s gig was a great success and we raised an incredible £10,312 which will go a long way to keeping the home running and providing emergency care and shelter to more children who are abandoned in the slums of Kampala. We have also launched the reintegration phase of this project and some of the money raised will be going towards finding the best option for each child to be fostered, adopted or reintegrated with family.
The “Raising The Rest” gig featured performances from Rukhsana Merisse; Eska; Ady Sulemain; Kitty, Daisy & Lewis; Laura Mvula and of course Michael Kiwanuka. The venue was packed with approximately 350 people and the whole evening was a huge success. A huge thank you goes to all who bought tickets and came along to this event, all the artists who performed, and our fantastic team of KCK volunteers who worked so hard to make sure the whole event ran smoothly. It truly was a night to remember and most importantly we raised a lot of money and awareness for a great cause. We will be running this event again next year so make sure you put it in your diary!
