Bad management, heavy rains and broken sewerage pipe resulted in the field in Katanga slum being completely unsafe and unusable for our children to play on
This field is much loved by our children, it is where we hold a lot of our KCK activities and bring vital love, joy and hope to our children. It was heartbreaking to not be able to use the field, and so over the last few months we have been tirelessly fundraising to raise enough to fix the field.
Thanks to the kind donations from several generous people, we managed to raise the money and yesterday the work on the field was completed!
Soil being delivered to reconstruct the field
Community members and KCK volunteers working hard to help fix the field
A digger comes to help level out the ground
Volunteers filling in holes in the field created by flooding
Water and sewage being pumped away from the field to make it safe
Thank you so much to all our volunteers and members of Katanga slum community who gave up their time and energy to work on the field and make it safe and usable for our children to play. We are passionate about involving community members at all levels of the decision-making process, and even the local authorities ended up joining in and getting their hands dirty!
Katanga slum still has numerous problems with sanitation, clean water housing, security and land tenure. We are in discussions with community members and district leaders as to how we can continue to help serve this community. If you would be interested in helping us or learning more about how you can get involved, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you so much to everyone who prayed and donated towards this. We are so happy that finally our children will have a safe place to play and enjoy being kids :)
