Being A Girl is a wonderful thing! However many girls around the world are facing immense difficulties just because they are girls.
Globally, you are 3 times more likely to live in poverty if you are a woman. Women make up more than 50% of the world’s population but receive only 10% of the income
In Uganda, 3 out of every 4 girls will not finish primary school because of poverty, and 4 out of every 10 girls will be married by the time they are 18.
Growing up in the slums is challenging for all children, however it is particularly tough for young girls. Poor sanitation and a lack of clean water means girls have nowhere safe to wash and they cannot afford basic sanitary items. Without sanitary products girls are vulnerable to infection and are often forced to stay home from school. However, many do not even have access to education and they often turn to child labour or prostitution.
Kids Club Kampala is bringing hope and love to girls in Kampala’s slums by providing them with access to education, monthly sanitary products and counselling, support and guidance.
*Sarah’s family could not afford for her to go to school so they abandoned her in the slums of Kampala and she was forced to work as a maid at the young age of 9. She came to Kids Club Kampala’s projects with no hope for her future. We have given her the chance to get out of child labour and start an education along with counselling, support and guidance for her future. She now has a bright future ahead of her and we have also been able to reconcile her with her family members.
